Give a man a fish – and the joke about the difference between a Democrat and a Republican
The old saying goes, “Give a man a fish, and he eats today, but teach a man to fish, and he eats for life.”
A Republican objects, saying, “Fishing instructors deserve fair market value for their lessons, and anyway, who are we to say that all hungry people should want fish? Why not let them decide whether to learn fishing, or hunting, or gardening?”
A Democrat objects, saying, “If we let everyone get their own fish, they might expose themselves to toxic levels of mercury. And anyway, those fish are endangered!”
