The economist and the high cost of living – The economist is rebuked for his theories on the high cost of living – by a rather unusual caller.
A famous economist received a phone call from a stranger one night, shortly after having published a new book.
‘I’m calling to challenge some of your statements in your book on the high cost of living. Why, my wife and I eat to our heart’s content on only 74 cents a week.’
The economist was shocked. ‘74 cents a week! That’s unbelievable. Can you tell me how you do it? And please speak loudly.’
‘I can’t speak any louder,’ replied the caller, ‘I’m a goldfish.’
