Harry Houdini is celebrated as the greatest escape artist and magician of his day, who could escape anything … except death itself. Houdini died on October 31 – Halloween. His funeral, befitting his stature, included many of the most famous people of his day.
Among the pallbearers at Harry Houdini’s funeral were the noted Broadway producers Charles Dillingham and Florenz Ziegfeld.
As they lifted the elaborate casket to their shoulders, Dillingham whispered to Ziegfeld in a whisper, “Suppose he isn’t here!”
