On December 20, 2002 Senator Patty Murray (D-Washington) made the
following outrageous statement about Osama bin Laden to a group of high
school students: “Why are people so supportive of him in many countries
… that are riddled with poverty? He’s been out in these countries for
decades, building schools, building roads, building infrastructure,
building day care facilities, building health care facilities, and the
people are extremely grateful. We haven’t done that. How would they
look at us today if we had been there helping them with some of that
rather than just being the people who are going to bomb in Iraq and go
to Afghanistan?”
Well, the story grows…
First, it needs to be noted that the Taliban’s on-line web site is using Sen. Murray’s words praising Osama for propaganda — gee, what a shock.
Second, were you aware that “On May 2, 2001, Murray was one of 13 U.S. senators who released a letter to Secretary of State Colin Powell calling on the Bush Administration to send $30 million in taxpayer aid to bin Laden’s Taliban hosts in Afghanistan just five months before Sept. 11. The letter warned that failure to act could spark a humanitarian crisis of ‘massive proportions,'” according to a news release from state Sen. Scott Bundgaard, R-Phoenix. (source: NewsMax.com)
The Taliban 13For the record, these were the 13 senators who wanted to give an additional $30 million to the murderous Taliban, hosts to Osama bin Laden & the Al-Qaeda network.: Sens. Patty Murray (D-Washington), Hillary Clinton (D-New York), Dianne Feinstein (D-California), Barbara Boxer (D-California), Teddy Kennedy (D-Massachusetts), Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), Barbara Mikulski (D-Maryland), Harry Reid (D-Nevada), Joseph Biden (D-Delaware), Russell Feingold (D-Wisconsin), Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan), Mary Landrieu (D-Louisiana), and the late Paul Wellstone (D-Minnesota). Also for the record, there were no day care centers built by Osama bin Laden — after all, the mothers of the children can’t leave their houses without a male relative escourt to take the children there. And, the roads and hospitals that bin Laden built were not for the Afghan people — they were for members of his forces. “most of those roads were built to take soldiers to and from training camps, the schools built were madrasas, which often indoctrinate students to the bin Laden brand of Islam, and the hospitals were not intended for average Muslims but for injured Mujahadeen fighters battling the Soviets.” (source: Fox News)
And, finally, for the record, we were already providing hundreds of millions of aid to Afghanistan, not to mention the rest of the world.
In conclusion, the truly sad part of all this? Sen. Murray has yet to apologize for her statements.
