The sort of announcement that you don’t hope to hear from the on-board computer on a commercial airplane flight.

The following announcement came over the airline speaker system:

“You are flying on the new Model XL-3000, a marvel in aeronautic engineering.  There is no pilot in the pilot’s compartment.  Everything is being operated from the ground. We took off from Los Angeles by computer.  We are followed by tracking stations across the country.  We will land in New York City by computer.  There is no cause for fear or apprehension, however, because nothing can go wrong, go wrong, go wrong …”
