The economist and the high cost of living

The economist and the high cost of living – The economist is rebuked for his theories on the high cost of living – by a rather unusual caller.

A famous economist received a phone call from a stranger one night, shortly after having published a new book.

‘€œI’€™m calling to challenge some of your statements in your book on the high cost of living.  Why, my wife and I eat to our heart’€™s content on only 74 cents a week.’€

The economist was shocked.  ‘€œ74 cents a week!  That’€™s unbelievable.  Can you tell me how you do it?  And please speak loudly.’€

‘€œI can’€™t speak any louder,’€ replied the caller, ‘€œI’€™m a goldfish.’€
